Watch out!

The times are definitely gone when Hardcore still sounded like a herd of madcap gorillas treating their guitars and drums with cudgels. To a growing degree bands are incorporating gentle and sensitive parts into their music. Some call this Post-Core, others term it Emotional Hardcore. However. - At any rate this results in some sort of music that fuses the fury of New School Hardcore with the beauty and tragedy of human life. During the past months Blood and Ink Records have released several records of bands that bustle at this boundary line between inspection and bluster. With the EP „Signs of the Time“ by the band With Increase they have lately put out an oeuvre that carries the development to its peak. Because on „Signs of the Time“ the contemplative parts even outweigh the explosive ones.

After all you are only able to perceive the storm if you also know the calm. No war without peace. No threat without safety. Thus, With Increase are not only singing about the „Signs of the Time“ on their album but they also picture them in their music. Storm, war, threat – according to the guys from Florida all of this takes place inside one's own mind. The threat does not come from outside but happens in the inside of the human heart.

„So what?“ one could reply now. „Humans are just conflicting people, that is why they seem quite a bit schizo then and again.“ But only because With Increase end up at the statement „these are the signs of the time“ they are not leaving their audience in the rain with their brokenness. The good thing about a sign is that it points towards something bigger and more important. A sign calls towards attention. This way what remains at the end is not the inner fight of the heart but the upward view. So watch out!


AUFGEPASST!

Die Zeiten sind eindeutig vorbei, als Hardcore sich noch so anhörte, als würde eine Horde wildgewordener Gorillas Gitarren und Schlagzeug mit Knüppeln traktieren. In immer stärkerem Umfang integrieren Bands inzwischen auch sachte und einfühlsame Passagen in ihre Musik. Manche nennen das dann Post-Core, andere sprechen von Emotional Hardcore. Egal. - Auf jeden Fall ergibt sich eine Sorte von Musik, die die Wut des New School Hadcore mit der Schönheit und Tragik des Menschseins zu einer Einheit verschmilzt. Blood und Ink Records haben in den letzten Monaten bereits mehrfach Platten von Bands herausgebracht, die sich musikalisch an dieser Schnittstelle zwischen Besinnung und Getöse tummeln. Mit der EP „Signs of the Time“ ist nun jüngst ein Werk der Band With Increase erschienen, das diese Entwicklung auf die Spitze treibt. Denn auf „Signs of the Time“ überwiegen die ruhigen Passagen sogar gegenüber den explosiven.

Schließlich ist ja auch der Sturm nur dann wahrnehmbar, wenn du auch die Ruhe kennst. Kein Krieg ohne Frieden. Keine Bedrohung ohne Geborgenheit. Auf ihrem Album besingen With Increase damit also nicht nur die „Zeichen der Zeit“, sondern sie bilden sie auch musikalisch ab. Sturm, Krieg, Bedrohung – das alles spielt sich ihnen zufolge nun allerdings in ihrem eigenen Innern ab. Die Gefahr kommt nicht von Außen, sondern sie residiert fatalerweise im Herz des Menschen.

„Na und?“ könnte man jetzt entgegnen. „Menschen sind halt zwiespältige Wesen und wirken darum auch bisweilen ganz schön schizo.“ Aber nur weil With Increase mit der Feststellung „dies sind die Zeichen der Zeit“ enden, lassen sie ihre Hörerinnen und Hörer noch längst nicht mit ihrer Zerbrochenheit im Regen stehen. Denn das Schöne an einem Zeichen ist ja, dass es auf etwas Größeres und Wichtigeres hinweist. Das Zeichen ruft zur Aufmerksamkeit auf. Am Schluss steht damit nicht der Kampf des Herzens sondern der Ausblick nach Oben. Also aufgepasst!
