Keep God out of Hardcore

Am Wochenende habe ich eine Punkrock-Show besucht. Mitten im Pit sprang ein Hardcore-Fan herum, dessen T-Shirt ich interessant fand. Denn darauf stand in großen Stencil-Buchstaben der alte Slogan „Keep God out of Hardcore“. Ich habe mich über dieses Statement gefreut. Und Gott sich auch, glaube ich.

Ein Interview mit Nievida

Sie sind die Erfinder des Kugel-Tanzes – das ist so eine Art Enten-Pogo. Und sie besitzen ein erstaunlich hohes Maß an songschreiberischem Fingerspitzengefühl. Gemeint ist die Band Nievida. Die drei Jungs haben ein paar Worte mit mir geplaudert, bevor sie Anfang August das Freakstock rockten, bis die Fetzen flogen.

Für und Wider

Soll ich, oder soll ich nicht? - Diese Frage meldet sich regelmäßig aus dem gedanklichen Off. Und zwar mit Vorliebe dann, wenn es um die wichtigen Entscheidungen des Lebens geht. Das Merkwürdige daran: Ganz häufig ist es doch sonnenklar, welches die richtige und welches die falsche Entscheidung wäre. Und trotzdem kostet der Entschluss, das Richtige zu tun, so viel Mut und auch Kraft. Du weißt genau, wie du dich entschließen solltest, aber du zögerst dennoch. Das liegt daran, dass es immer Pro und Contra, Für uns Wider gibt. Auch richtige Entscheidungen haben Nachteile. Oder anders herum ausgedrückt: Auch die Entscheidung für das Falsche hat ihren Reiz.

Do you want an unapologetic message and melodious punk guitar riffs? Then open your ears and give a listen to The Hoax. This four piece from California have released their first full length album on Thumper Punk Records a few weeks ago. On „Stumbling Through“ the band presents Punk Rock of a very catchy and slightly crusty kind that receives its special flavor from the powerful vocals and the harmonical guitar parts. Furthermore The Hoax have that phat snare drum sound. The whole thing reminds me a bit of the old records by 90 Lb Wuss who hit the gas like a scalded cat back in the 1990s. But The Hoax also know how to cross the old punk stereotypes by integrating a few bars of Glam Metal, Reggae or Folk here and there. The result is a debut album that has really got a lot of variety.

Wasserstandsmeldung

Okay, der Sommer könnte wirklich etwas mehr Sonne und dafür weniger Regen vertragen. Deswegen erreichen uns ständig neue Wasserstandsmeldungen von den Wetterdiensten. Aber eine Wasserstandsmeldung ganz anderer Art hat vor wenigen Wochen das Haus Musicfreaks herausgehauen. Das Ding heißt „Upcoming 2011 | Rock“ und bietet einen Querschnitt durch die Landschaft der Contemporären Christlichen (Rock)Musik, wie das heute so schön heißt.

Shaking Walls

The sound of Debtor can make walls shake. For this band from Philadelphia plays Hardcore of some kind that is not quite so fast but the more emphatic instead. Especially because these guys from Pennsylvania do not invest all of their concentration on pure speed they can place musical emphasis on their subject matter very well-directedly. The new album „Bloodseeds“ has been released on Blood and Ink Records in July. Many of Debtor's lyrics quote smaller or larger sections from the bible. But the result of this is not a mere duplicate.

A good old churchly tradition says that the brass choir is a hip sort of christian music. But sometimes a change has got to be made. So, what could be more obvious than connecting the brass choir to shuffled rhythms and distorted guitars? This procedure tows the brass choir onto the next level of development. The result is called Skacore. Or, in other words: „Brass Choir 2.0“.
