Climbing the Next Level

A good old churchly tradition says that the brass choir is a hip sort of christian music. But sometimes a change has got to be made. So, what could be more obvious than connecting the brass choir to shuffled rhythms and distorted guitars? This procedure tows the brass choir onto the next level of development. The result is called Skacore. Or, in other words: „Brass Choir 2.0“.

Something comparable is presently also happening in the project „Ska Lives“ which has been built up by a bunch of visionaries last year. Within a few months this project has now already released the second sampler that has the title „Ska Lives Vol. 2“. The album includes 29 songs all of which can be downloaded for free from Indie Vision Music again. These songs demonstrate quite clearly how much Ska is indeed alive. And the Ska-Lives-Initiative has very obviously climbed the next level in its development by now: What began as a project has since become a movement. Congratulations!

There are once again plenty of brass-choir-2.0-style goodies included in the sampler. For example, the O.C. Supertones, Send out Scuds and the Insyderz all have contributed phat tracks to the record. And, as a German band Good Weather Forecast have got into the act this time, too. Their song „Love Revolution“ deals with changes that are made possible by love. Accordingly, this track fits as well into the year 2011 as fries go with salt and punk guitars go with brass instruments.

Now, what can the next future level of development look like for Ska Lives? It surely would be cool to arrange a tour with shows in North America and Europe. Or to start a club membership where one gets one of these nice membership cards. Or, plainly and most profoundly, to release Ska Lives Vol. 3 next year.


DIE NÄCHSTE STUFE ERKLIMMEN

Eine gute alte kirchliche Tradition besagt, dass der Posaunenchor eine hippe Form der christlichen Musik darstellt. Aber irgendwann ist einfach auch einmal die Zeit für eine Veränderung gekommen. Was liegt da also näher als den Posaunenchor mit geshuffelten Rhythmen und verzerrten Gitarren zu verbinden? Diese Prozedur bugsiert den Posaunenchor auf die nächste Entwicklungsstufe. Das Ergebnis nennt sich Skacore. Oder mit anderen Worten: „Posaunenchor 2.0“.

Etwas Vergleichbares ereignet sich zur Zeit auch bei dem Projekt „Ska Lives“, das eine Bande von Visionären letztes Jahr ins Leben gerufen hat. Innerhalb von wenigen Monaten hat dieses Projekt mit Ska Lives Vol. 2 nun schon den zweiten Sampler herausgebracht. Die darauf enthaltenen 29 Songs, die man sich bei Indie Vision Music mal wieder kostenlos herunterholen kann, belegen sehr deutlich, wie lebendig die Ska Musik tatsächlich ist. Und auch die Ska-Lives-Initiative hat damit ganz klar die nächste Entwicklungsstufe erreicht: Was als Projekt begann ist nun zu einer Bewegung geworden. Herzlichen Glückwunsch!

Auf dem neuen Sampler sind mal wieder reichlich Posaunenchor-2.0-mäßige Leckerbissen enthalten. Beispielsweise sind die O.C. Supertones, Send out Scuds und die Insyderz mit jeweils sauguten Tracks vertreten. Und mit Good Weather Forecast mischt diesmal auch eine deutsche Band auf der Platte mit. In ihrem Song „Love Revolution“ geht es um Veränderungen, die die Liebe ermöglicht. Ein Titel also, der so gut ins Jahr 2011 passt wie das Salz zu den Pommes und die Bratgitarre zu den Blechbläsern.

Wie kann in der Zukunft nun die nächste Stufe für Ska Lives aussehen? Eine Tour mit Konzerten in Nordamerika und Europa zu veranstalten wäre cool. Oder eine Clubmitgliedschaft, wo man so einen schicken Mitglieds-Ausweis bekommt. Oder halt einfach die Veröffentlichung von Ska Lives Vol. 3 im nächsten Jahr.
