Pick Yourself a Harp

When you are frustrated because you are completely out of your element. When you feel as if the whole world is against you. When you have a dream but do not know how to make it come true – then there are exactly two alternatives. Either you lose heart, hang your musical instrument upon a tree and sit down into a corner poutfully.

Or you act like the band Svarteskerm would. - By picking yourself an electric harp from a tree and raising the roof with it. It is an approved old virtue in punk rock to answer grievances by making some noise. When things are going wrong the world's attention has got to be raised on that issue, right? And this is exactly what Svarteskerm do on their new EP „Vid Babylons Floder“. According to the finest Swedish punk rock tradition the band are playing some raucous sort of style that combines melody and yelling with a whiff of frenzy. Last of which Svarteskerm have clearly proven in their music video of the single „Kojans Talan i Palats.“ The sound of these Swedish guys is hard to describe but enormously catchy, despite – or maybe just because – of its massive overdrive. All of this makes the record „Vid Babylons Floder“ an outstanding release in the year 2011.

So come on, don't hang the head but pick yourself a harp!


PFLÜCK DIR NE HARFE

Wenn Du gefrustet bist, weil du dich so fühlst, als wärst du völlig fehl am Platze. Wenn es dir so vorkommt, als stünde die ganze Welt gegen dich. Wenn du einen Traum hast aber nicht weißt, wie du ihn verwirklichen sollst – dann gibt es genau zwei Möglichkeiten. Entweder du lässt den Mut sinken, hängst dein Musikinstrument in einen Baum und setzt dich schmollend in eine Ecke.

Oder du machst es wie die Band Svarteskerm. - Indem du dir eine Elektro-Harfe aus dem Baum pflückst und damit ordentlich Radau schlägst. Es ist eine bewährte alte Tugend des Punkrock, Missstände mit Lärm zu beantworten. Wenn etwas schief läuft, dann muss die Welt doch schließlich darauf aufmerksam gemacht werden! Und genau das tun Svarteskerm auf ihrer neuen EP „Vid Babylons Floder“. In bester schwedischer Punk-Tradition pflegt die Band einen rauen Stil, in dem sich Melodie, Geschrei und ein Hauch von Wahnsinn mischen. Letzteres haben Svarteskerm in ihrem Musikvideo zur Single „Kojans Talan i Palats“ deutlich unter Beweis gestellt. Der schwer zu beschreibende Sound der Schweden besitzt trotz – oder gerade wegen – des gehörigen Overdrive ein krasses Ohrwurm-Potenzial. Dies macht die Platte „Vid Babylons Floder“ zu einer der wirklich herausstechenden Veröffentlichungen des Jahres 2011.
