On the Way Home

These guys do not look like willow trees but they sound like that. And, what is more, they are even named after Willows. The music that this band presents on their new EP „Walk Home“ sounds tough in the middle and nearly fragile at the fringe. This way, some emotional Hardcore is made up and often furnished with slow and solemn intros. The guitar parts remind me several times of Metallica's „One“ and its characteristic alteration of calm and storm. The new EP is available at the price of zip, sort of an advanced Christmas gift.

In their lyrics Willows speak the tongue of Canaan fluently. Their songs tell the old story of the battle between good and evil. Accordingly the wording is mashing well with the subject in borrowing from grave old books. However, to my mind, this sometimes blurs the horizon a bit, because at the end it is still a little nebulous what really makes the difference between the Lord of the Rings and the Revelation of John. I would have liked it to get to know in clear text what really matters to these talented guys of Willows. After all Willows is a very young band. Hence we can count on them to cause a lot of excitement in the future.

So the further way of this band will be exciting. And the title of the EP goes brilliantly with this: „Walk Home“. Life is a path on which you can strike for home. Let us hike on happily.


AUF DEM HEIMWEG

Diese Jungs sehen zwar nicht aus wie Weidenbäume, aber sie klingen wie welche. Und sie heißen auch so. Der Sound, den Willows auf ihrer neuen EP „Walk Home“ darbieten, klingt robust in der Mitte und beinahe fragil an den Rändern. So ergibt sich emotionaler Hardcore, den die Band oft mit langsamen und getragenen Intros versieht. Die Gitarrenparts erinnern mich mehrfach an „One“ von Metallica mit diesem charakteristischem Wechsel zwischen Ruhe und Sturm. Die neue EP gibt es als Download für umme, sozusagen als ziemlich vorgezogenes Weihnachtsgeschenk.

In ihren Texten sprechen Willows sehr fließend die Sprache Kanaans. Ihre Lieder erzählen die alte Geschichte vom Kampf zwischen Gut und Böse. Da passt es natürlich gut, wenn die Jungs sprachliche Anleihen bei feierlichen alten Büchern machen. Allerdings verschwimmt dabei für mein Gefühl ein bisschen der Horizont, so dass es am Ende etwas unklar bleibt, worin sich denn jetzt eigentlich der Herr der Ringe von der Offenbarung des Johannes unterscheidet. Ich hätte mir gewünscht, auch mal im Klartext zu erfahren, was den talentierten Jungs von Willows wichtig ist. Aber es handelt sich hier ja um eine recht junge Band. Wir können demnach damit rechnen, dass Willows in Zukunft noch reichlich Wirbel in der Szene verbreiten werden.

Der weitere Weg wird also spannend. Und dazu passt hervorragend auch der Titel der EP: „Walk Home“. Das Leben ist ein Heimweg. Schöne Vorstellung. Da wandert man gerne.
