Travel to the Past

What's over is over. But still, the past is not simply gone just because nobody is able to turn back the clock. Who keeps the eyes – or, more precisely: the ears – open can still encounter things that stem from the past, even in our present. Like, for example, the nice Complete-Works-Edition of uniSEF that has been released by Thumper Punk Records lately.

uniSEF were a three piece street-punk-band from Idaho that sounds about as if the early Anti-Flag had turned to the Lord and started preaching the gospel now instead of rebellion. Without fail this is Punk-Rock as it is supposed to be: pleasantly fast and coarse, with dashing rhythms and explicit lyrics. These recordings really sound presentable. By re-releasing the old albums on one single CD Thumper Punk Records have proven their unerring nose for agelessly up-to-date Rock'n'Roll. During the five years of their creative period between 2004 and 2009 uniSEF have recorded some of their songs several times. Because of that a few of the tracks are present on the Discography in different versions: a demo-version, an album-version, a live-version, an acoustic-version and a Mickey-Mouse-version. In the end, this still cannot annoy me, for uniSEF's music is simply great.

Everybody who listens to this album will pretty soon recognize that the past is far from gone. In fact, it reaches right into the present and spreads fun and hope here. By the way, the follow-up-project of these guys from Idaho is called False Idle and carries forward the history of uniSEF in a worthy manner. Rumors have been heard that False Idle will pipe up with a new album in the near future. Admittedly, these are dreams of the future.


REISE IN DIE VERGANGENHEIT

Was vorbei ist, ist vorbei. Und trotzdem ist die Vergangenheit ja nicht futsch, nur weil keiner die Uhr zurückdrehen kann. Wer die Augen – oder vielmehr: Ohren – offen hält, kann auch in der Gegenwart noch Dingen begegnen, die aus der Vergangenheit stammen. Wie zum Beispiel der schönen uniSEF-Gesamtausgabe, die Thumper Punk Records nun an den Start gebracht hat.

uniSEF waren eine dreiköpfige Street-Punk-Band aus Idaho, die in etwa so klingt, als hätten sich die frühen Anti-Flag zum Herrn bekehrt und würden nun das Evangelium predigen anstatt die Rebellion. Auf alle Fälle ist dies Punkrock, wie er sich gehört: angenehm schnell und ungeschliffen mit preschenden Rhythmen und expliziten Texten. Die Aufnahmen können sich echt hören lassen. Thumper Punk Records beweisen mit dem Re-Issue der alten Scheiben auf einer einzigen CD somit einen zielsicheren Riecher für zeitlos aktuellen Rock'n'Roll. Dass uniSEF während ihrer fünfjährigen Schaffensphase zwischen 2004 und 2009 viele Songs mehrfach aufgenommen haben, führt dazu, dass einige Tracks auf der Diskographie entsprechend in unterschiedlichen Versionen vertreten sind: eine Demo-Version, eine Album-Version, eine Live-Version, eine Acoustic-Version und eine Mickeymouse-Version. Letztlich vermag das aber nicht zu stören, denn die Musik von uniSEF ist einfach gut.

Wer dieses Album anhört, merkt schnell, dass die Vergangenheit alles andere als futsch ist. Denn sie wirkt bis in die Gegenwart hinein und verbreitet hier Spaß und Hoffnung. Das Nachfolge-Projekt der Jungs aus Idaho heißt übrigens False Idle und setzt die Geschichte von uniSEF in würdiger Weise fort. Man hat schon läuten gehört, dass auch False Idle sich in Bälde wieder mit einer neuen Platte zu Wort melden werden. Doch das ist Zukunftsmusik.
